Most lottery players have their eyes set on hitting a big jackpot win. While there is always a chance of becoming a millionaire overnight, as long as one keeps trying, this dream only manifests among the lucky few.

Biggest Lottery Jackpots in 2022

Winning a lottery is one thing, but hitting the biggest lottery is another story. Jackpots come in all shapes and sizes. Some online lotteries are known for their high starting jackpots, while others get to record-breaking numbers because of gaming mechanics, such as the number of active players or the jackpot’s duration.

Biggest Jackpots in the World

Before delving into some of the biggest jackpots today, it is essential to take a sneak peek into some of the biggest starting jackpots available today.

Ideally, a starting jackpot is the initial jackpot amount, usually, reset after a win. Most lotteries with initial jackpot amounts keep growing with each roll over until the jackpot amount reaches the lottery’s cap or upper limit.

Over the years, most of the lotteries with the largest starting amount, which grow to be the largest, are from Europe and America. So, unsurprisingly, most lottery fans keep up with the biggest jackpots in Europe and America. Read on to learn more about some of the biggest jackpots in America and Europe.

World’s Biggest Jackpots

Mega Millions Jackpot

The Mega Millions Jackpot is one of the biggest Jackpot games in America. This lottery conducts its draws twice a week, giving players a chance to walk away with the Jackpot and other cash prizes. Players must buy a $2 ticket and pick six numbers from separate pools, five white balls, and a sixth gold mega ball to play.

On July 20, 2022, the Mega Millions jackpot soared to a record-breaking $630 million value. The lottery’s strong ticket push largely inspired these historical values. Besides, this win follows a $20 million jackpot won on April 15, 2022, with more than 15.5 million winning tickets in this space.

To date, Powerball USA holds the record for the largest jackpot win set in 2016. Three winners shared this record-setting jackpot amount.

A line or ticket in the Powerball lottery usually costs $2. However, the cost may increase to $3 for players who include some playing extras such as ‘Power Play.’ To win the jackpot, a player must match five white balls on the ticket, plus the red power ball.

Since the Powerball has not been won for some time, July 16’s draw saw the value increase to $82 million, with the cash value options worth 46.6 million.

The EuroMillions jackpot is played across nine European nations. This lottery sees players pick five random numbers from a 50-number box and two extra numbers known as the zero Lucky Stars from an 11-number box.

With draws on Tuesdays and Fridays, the EuroMillions lottery offers a guaranteed starting jackpot amount of $17 million, which can grow to an impressive $240 million. Just recently, on July 19, 2022, a UK player won $230 million, trumping the previous record of $220 million. However, this now means that the counters have been reset to the starting amount.

The SuperEnalotto is an Italian lottery best known for its massive jackpot amounts. The jackpot starts at an initial starting value of €2 million. This lottery holds three draws every week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, where players attempt to pick six lucky numbers from a pool of 90. As of July 19, 2022, SuperEnalotto’s jackpot amount stands at €241.3 million.

And while the largest jackpots listed here might be the largest in the world, things change pretty fast, and records are broken every other day. This means that lottery fans should not limit themselves to the names highlighted above but keep exploring other options.
